Wear OS — SmartWatch + Smartphone = Keep Muscles in Tone Review
Wear OS is a rebranded version of famous Android Wear. This mobile app synchronizes your device with a smartwatch. Apart from helping stay fit and healthy, this app will let you know what's happening on your phone, without havening to draw it out of your pocket. Just download Wear OS.
Wear OS has been designed to make your smartphone & smartwatch work as one über-device. First of all, it's helpful for every fitness adept: the app counts calories, tracks your activity, provides reliable tips on staying in shape (e.g. from AHA). And it lets you earn bonuses for every minute of physical activity.
It's also handy if you want to skip music tracks, while working out. If some mellow ballad happens to be in the workout-list, skip it by a simple swipe to something more energetic like "X Gon' Give It to Ya". And the smartphone/tablet will obey.
In case you go out jogging early in the morning and leave your phone at home - it's okay. The app will warn you about every notification/message, by sending the alerts to your watch. In the latest update, more messages can be browsed in the feed, which liberates you from opening a new tab to view them.
Android Assistant received a tangible intelligence boost as well. Now it can help you manage your schedules and to-do's, set reminders, book tickets/hotels and find routes. For instance, you can request it to calculate the distance to your Airbnb reservation, find a nearby eatery or ask it to show you the confirmation number for a flight. All can be done without grabbing the phone.
However there is one crucial flaw: on certain devices Wear OS may begin living its own life, going deaf-mute on its own. Only error & trial will tell if it works properly on your gizmo.
The operations in Wear OS are done through swiping. Swipe left - it opens Google Fit. Swipe right - Google Assistant. Up - notifications, down - settings. It's laconic and intuitive and also more responsive than previously. Although sometimes it gets slow, especially when you launch Google Play.
Wear OS can be your personal advisor, digital wallet and secretary. Besides you won't have to snatch the phone to answer a call, set a reminder, pay for groceries, schedule a workout plan etc. The app can do it all for you.
Cross-platform use 3/5
The app is available for both iOS and Android. Once you install it, you can synchronize a gadget with the watch. How smooth it'll go, seemingly depends on what device you're using exactly.
The app is free and offers no unlockable content. There are no extra themes, hidden VIP features or some luxury+ decorative elements.
The Bottom Line
Wear OS has definitely become sharper and faster in a way. At the same time, it fails to do syncing on certain devices. Features that used to work like a charm - e.g. sending a response via Assistant - are unpardonably sabotaged now. Still, the app is worth being tried.
Download Wear OS to make your watch and phone work in a tandem.
