Yahoo Messenger - The Patriarch Among Messengers Review

Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

Yahoo Messenger is a rebuilt version of the legendary desktop app. Its key catch is providing you with the instant, painless group chatting for both business and personal purposes. Download Yahoo Messenger if you need to send tons of messages and files. It can be your reliable assistant at that.

Functionality 4/5

One of its trademark options is the capability of sending hundreds of media files to other people present in the chat. Especially Yahoo Messenger is good at handling photos: you can share entire photo shoots, albums etc. So if you have a collection of nice snaps from you travel to Kami Mata Temple and can't be patient about sharing it with your family, Yahoo has got your back.

Whatever files you send, are streamlined in the process. That means you don't send their "physical" copies to your contacts, but run them through the cloud-based intermediary. As a result, the messenger is merciful to the storage space of your recipients' devices.

Another remarkable feature of Yahoo Messenger is this: it keeps perfect track of your messages. Even dated as far as a few months and even years ago. And thanks to its cloud nature, you can easily withdraw whatever message you've sent earlier. Blinded with emotions or intoxicated with a might brew — you won't have to suffer from self-cringe afterwards. Just revoke whatever inappropriate stuff you've written.

As a tiny bonus, there's a Facebook chat integration in the messenger. That means you can chat with your FB friends, coordinate your actions in multiplayer Facebook games or update your status.

Design 4/5

Yahoo Messenger looks clean and smooth, with white, blue and purple tones as its central color choice. The big, smiling emoji ruins the design integrity a bit. At least option categories are laconic and self-evident, so navigation won't be problematic.

Usability 3.5/5

The Messenger could prove to be a magnificent corporate tool, since its primary ambition is to provide effortless group chatting. It's awesome when you need to transfer/receive a huge bulk of media files or host a video/audio conference. Plus its cloud architecture can liberate a lot of gadgets from junk.

Cross-platform use 4/5

The app is available on iOS and Android. Additional versions can be installed on desktop/laptop computers as well.

Update: Our Yahoo Messenger review warns you that the app has been discontinued in July 2018 and therefore can't be found in Google Play, AppStore and other app shops/aggregators. Sorry about that.

In-app purchases

Yahoo messenger doesn't feature extra-fee offers. However, in return, its background can sometimes be heavily loaded with ads and promo-banners. Which is an absolute eye-sore and a pesky distraction.

The Bottom Line

Yahoo Messenger used to be a good app for mass-transfer of media files and hosting giant video and audio group sessions. As of now, it's not supported anymore, and it's unlikely that this legendary messenger will ever be reanimated. Alas, let's say our good-byes to the app, that's been around for 20 years.
